The exam is scheduled to take place in June starting from 23rd June 2023 till 25th June 2023, and the last date to apply for it is May 9, 2023.

It is an opportunity for post-graduates in economics to work as economic advisors, directors, and other senior positions in different government organizations.

Exam pattern

The IES exam consists of a written exam and an interview, and candidates who clear it can be appointed in different prestigious positions responsible for policy formulation, economic analysis, and program implementation in the country.

The written examination consists of six papers, and candidates are required to appear for all six papers. The six papers are General English and General Studies, General Economics-I, General Economics-II, General Economics-III, Indian Economics Development, and Statistics.

The General English section of the paper will test the candidate’s understanding of the English language and its usage, while the General Studies section will test the candidate’s knowledge of various subjects such as Indian history, geography, polity, economy, and current affairs.

The other four papers, General Economics-I, II, and III, and Indian Economics Development, will test the candidate’s knowledge of micro and macroeconomics, advanced topics in economics, the Indian economy, and Indian economic development, respectively. The last paper, Statistics, will test the candidate’s knowledge of statistics.

Candidates who clear the written exam are called for an interview, which is conducted to assess their suitability for the various positions. The interview panel will consist of experts from various fields, and the candidates will be asked questions related to their field of study, current affairs, and general knowledge.
