Agriculture

Agriculture plays a vital role in India’s economy, contributing significantly to GDP, employment, and rural development. Although its share in GDP has declined with the rise of the industrial and services sectors, agriculture remains a key sector, providing employment to 50-60% of the workforce. It ensures food security, supports foreign exchange earnings through exports, and drives socio-cultural practices tied to India’s traditions. Despite its importance, the sector faces challenges like low productivity, fragmented land holdings, climate dependency, and inefficient marketing systems. Various government policies and initiatives, such as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, aim to address these issues, promote technological advancements, and improve the livelihoods of farmers, ensuring the long-term sustainability of Indian agriculture.
