RBI Grade B DEPR Phase-II Result 2023 is Out; Next Step Interview

On August 28, 2023, the Reserve Bank of India declared the RBI Grade B DEPR Mains Result for DR- General post, here’s what you should know. RBI released the result in PDF format, along with qualified student’s roll number, which are now eligible for the interview.
RBI DEPR Grade B DEPR Results – Everything a Qualified Candidate Should Know?
The examination was held on July 30, 2023, and the results for the 291 vacancies to be filled were recently released. However, the RBI Grade B DEPR Cut off for General Post is yet to be released along with the scorecard. Aspirants can check their qualification status on the PDF uploaded on the official website off the Reserve Bank of India.
The uploaded PDF contains the following information; Reserve Bank of India’s name is prominently displayed on top. It also specifies the recruitment as “Recruitment for the post of Officers in Grade B. (Direct Recruitment-DR) (General/DEPR/DSIM) Streams.” It also contains the roll numbers of the qualified candidates.
The qualified candidates will now be called for the final stage of the selection process, the interview. It is mandatory for every selected candidate to appear for the RBI Grade B DEPR Interview/ Personality Test round. The panel would assess the personality, aptitude, attitude, and other attributes required for the RBI Grade B DEPR Manager.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is yet to release the details about the final stage of the selection process, Interview. A call letter will be sent to every selected candidate, containing information on the timings, date and venue along with reporting time. Aspirants are expected to start preparing for the interview. The RBI is expected to conduct the interview in September 2023.
How to Prepare for RBI Grade B DEPR Interview?
Aspirants have been preparing for a long time, passed two phases and are preparing to clear the last phase as well. RBI Grade B DEPR Phase-I was held on July 9, 2023, while Phase-II examination on July 30, 2023. With the recent results announcement, between 600-650 qualified candidates will soon be called for the interview. But the total vacancies are only 222, hinting towards a strict and interesting interview.
There is no need to be afraid, Phase-I & II were for your intellectual assessment, encompassing the subject knowledge. The interview process is an assessment of a candidate’s personality, and to know if he/she is fit for the job. After clearing the phases a candidate is expected to have subject knowledge, the last phase is to know how it will be put to action.
The Three Recommended Steps
To clear this phase a candidate can follow these three steps; Knowing Yourself, Knowing about RBI as an organisation, and Knowing your profession. Every interview starts with a question, Tell me something about yourself? It is asked to evaluate how much the candidate knows about oneself. Expected questions in this section would be as follows.
- Tell me about yourself?
- What are your career goals?
- How can you describe yourself in three words?
- List your 3 biggest achievements?
- List your 3 biggest failures?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- What are your hobbies?
Here there is no right or wrong answer, these questions are designed to evaluate self knowledge of the candidate. It is advisable to be genuine in your answers, and avoid giving fake answers or portraying something you are not. Next the candidate is expected to know about the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as an organisation.
As the candidate will be working for the organisation on different levels, a prior knowledge is expected. Grade B officers have the opportunity to reach the level of Deputy Governor. Expected questions for this section would be as follows,
- Why do you want to join the Reserve Bank of India?
- Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years working in RBI?
- According to you, what are the difficult functions for the RBI to manage?
- How would you differentiate between ‘supervision’ & ‘regulation’ functions of RBI?
- Why the RBI is allowed to regulate the payment and settlement system.
Any additional knowledge of the banking industry would be an added advantage. Candidate is also expected to have read RBI’s important publications including the annual report, ongoing trends in banking, past speeches of governors, etc. Knowing the profession you’ll be working in is a must.
A recruiter is looking for a candidate best suitable for the job, selection for interview is indicative of an already capable individual. Now he/she has to outperform others by explaining to the panel why they should be selected over others. The probable questions would be as follows.
- Why should we select you as an RBI Grade B officer?
- How would your educational background help you in working with RBI?
- Despite being an engineer, why do you want to have a career with the Reserve Bank of India?
- What other options are you cultivating, or what other competitive exams have you been preparing for?
Prerequisites for Appearing at RBI Grade B DEPR Interview
A candidate is expected to be well versed in the current events and news surrounding economics, banking, rural finance, etc. Daily reading of prominent newspapers like The Hindu, Business Standard, Economic Times, Mint, etc is recommended. Also a timely visit to RBI’s website will help as they release a lot of technical information and press releases.
For instance a deep knowledge of the G20 summit can be appreciated. Knowing the highlights of the previous Union Budget, and other important topics can be touched during the interview. Future RBI officers are expected to dress accordingly for the interview, and follow the dressing guidelines.
Try to reach the venue at least 30 minutes before the allotted time, this would give you time to relax and get to know other participants. Listen to the questions carefully before answering, also keeping pauses in your answers gives time to think. A future RBI officer is expected to have certain traits to behave accordingly.
Do not bluff, while answering the panel. Maintain the decorum, don’t get nervous, if you don’t know the answer, pass on to another. The interview procedure for RBI Grade B DEPR is conducted in select cities across the country. Candidate is expected to opt for a location feasible to reach within the required time frame.
