Understanding the Nuances of RBI Grade-B DEPR
The Reserve Bank of India Grade B DEPR examination is conducted once a year in three distinct phases. Phase-I includes two papers where Paper-I where candidates have to answer objectives centred around Economics, while Paper-II covers descriptive English. After successful completion of Phase-I, candidates are shortlisted for Phase-II.
Phase-II also consists of two papers testing knowledge of economics, aspiring candidates are advised to comprehend instructions. Hereafter, the selected candidates are allowed to appear for the thrift and final Phase-III, the Personality Test/ Interview. The panel will judge the candidates based on their personality, aptitude, attitude and other required attributes.

RBI Grade-B DEPR Syllabus & Examination Pattern
Aspiring candidates wishing to clear the examination are prescribed to understand the examination pattern well before appearing. The major points listed in the syllabus are as follows.

Eligibility Criteria for RBI Grade-B DEPR
Similar to every other government examination, aspiring candidates for RBI Grade-B DEPR are required to fulfil the following eligibility criteria.
- Age limit for the candidate must be between 21-30 years as of January 1 of the year of application for the examination.
- Candidates hailing from reserved categories are provided age relaxation according to the norms of the Government of India.
- Applicants who have pursued M.Phil degree are eligible for the examination by the age of 32.
- While an applicant having a Ph.D degree can appear for the examination till the age of 34.
Above are the basic criteria that must be fulfilled for appearing in the examination, but a candidate should also satisfy the educational criteria for the RBI Grade-B DEPR.

Aspiring candidates should note that for (A) the minimum required marks must be above 55% or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/ years from a recognized Indian or Foreign University or Institute. Also, the understanding of the following information is also required.
- For SC, ST & PwBD candidates, the minimum marks requirement for (A), (B), & must be at least 50%.
- The term Principal Constituent is referred to as a syllabus or curriculum in which half or more of the total course, electives, credits must include Economics &/or Finance.
- The term Specialisation in Economics or Finance states that a third or more of the total course, electives, credits in the second year must include Economics &/or Finance.
- The candidates having an M.Phil degree or a Doctorate Degree from a recognised Indian or Foreign University, Institute in economics will be rewarded with an age relaxation of 2 & 4 Years respectively.
- Candidates with Master’s Degree with Research or teaching experience at a recognised Indian or Foreign University or Institute in Economics are also eligible for age relaxation in the upper age limit.
- These relaxation will be applied with respect to the number of years of experience.
- These years will be subjected to a maximum of three years. But in case the experience is that of probationary period it will not be considered.
- It should be noted that the aforementioned age relaxation will not be cumulatively available with age relaxation to the various categories as mentioned above.
The aspiring candidates belonging to the General Category are allowed to have 6 attempts to clear the RBI Grade B DEPR Phase I examination. At the same time there is no limit for attempts for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS aspiring candidates.
